The Ultimate Guide to Acrylic Prints: Transforming Your Photos into Stunning Wall Art

Some photographs deserve more than a place on your phone. A favourite coastal view, a wedding portrait or a wide landscape can bring a memory into the room every day. Acrylic gives these photographs a polished, contemporary finish, with rich colour and a sense of depth.

This guide explains how to choose an acrylic photo print, from the size and image quality to the mounting, finish and overall cost.

Acrylic photo prints at a glance

Print Panoramics makes personalised acrylic photo prints in the UK using your own photograph. Our range combines 10mm high-gloss acrylic, diamond-polished edges and a concealed hanging subframe. Choose rectangular, square or panoramic sizes, with an image quality check before production and free UK delivery.

What is an acrylic photo print?

An acrylic photo print displays your photograph on a rigid acrylic panel. The clear, glossy surface gives the image a smooth appearance and a sense of depth, while the polished edges provide a clean finish without a visible outer frame.

At Print Panoramics, your photograph is 12-colour Giclée printed onto a premium acrylic panel. The result is rich, detailed colour that lasts 100 years+.

Acrylic suits colourful landscapes, architectural photographs and portraits when you want a sleek finish. It also works with black and white photography, where the glossy surface gives the image a different character from textured canvas.

Which acrylic print size and shape should I choose?

Start with the shape of your photograph and the wall space available. A wide landscape may suit a panoramic panel, while a portrait or square crop can work well as a smaller feature or part of a group.

Format Current size options Choose it for
Rectangular Listed sizes from 30 × 20 cm to 137 × 91 cm Portrait or landscape photographs, including a large statement piece.
Square Listed sizes from 20 × 20 cm to 75 × 75 cm Square compositions, individual portraits or a coordinated display.
Panoramic 30 × 10 inches (75 × 25 cm), 36 × 12 inches (91 × 30 cm), or 48 × 16 inches (120 × 40 cm) Wide landscapes, skylines and photographs with detail spread across the frame.

Browse our rectangular and square acrylic photo prints or choose a panoramic acrylic print. These are selected sizes, so check the product page for the available options.

Mark out your preferred dimensions on the wall before ordering. Look at the space around furniture and nearby pictures, then check that the crop keeps the people, horizon or other details you want to preserve.

Will my photograph look sharp as a large or panoramic acrylic print?

The best starting point is the original, full-resolution photograph. Sharpness depends on the detail in the file, the crop and the size you want to print. Enlarging a small or heavily cropped image can make softness and pixelation more noticeable.

  • Upload the original file rather than a screenshot or a copy saved from social media.
  • Check important details, such as faces and distant buildings, for focus and blur.
  • For a phone panorama or stitched image, look for uneven joins or distorted objects.
  • Review the crop carefully. Removing part of the photograph also removes pixels available for printing.

Changing a file's resolution label alone does not add image detail. If you are unsure, contact Print Panoramics about your photograph and preferred size before ordering. We also check uploaded images before production. Our image upload guide explains how to position your photograph within the print area.

Acrylic, canvas or aluminium: which finish suits your room?

The surface changes how a photograph looks on the wall. Compare the finish as well as the size, particularly if your display position faces a window or a bright light.

Print type Surface and appearance A good choice when
Acrylic Smooth, high-gloss 10mm panel with polished edges and a concealed hanging subframe. You want a glossy, frameless display with a sense of depth.
Canvas Softly textured cotton canvas stretched over a wooden frame. You prefer visible texture and a softer, more traditional wall art appearance.
Aluminium Dibond Slim 3mm composite panel with a satin finish and a concealed hanging subframe. You want a flat, minimalist display with a satin surface.

High-gloss acrylic can reflect windows and lamps. Consider where you will view the print and how light falls across it. If you prefer a less glossy look, compare canvas and our satin aluminium Dibond finish. Neither should be treated as reflection-free, and metal prints from different suppliers can have different surfaces.

Are acrylic prints suitable for bathrooms and kitchens?

Yes. Print Panoramics acrylic prints are water-resistant and suitable for moisture-prone bathrooms and kitchens. Our acrylic glass is also scratch-resistant and offers UV protection, helping protect your photograph during everyday display. Follow the care instructions supplied with your print to keep the surface looking its best.

How are acrylic prints mounted on the wall?

Print Panoramics acrylic prints come with a concealed subframe hanging system as standard. It sits behind the panel, creating the appearance of the photograph floating away from the wall while leaving the front and edges visually clear.

When comparing acrylic prints, you may encounter three different descriptions:

  • Hidden back mount or subframe: the support is behind the panel, giving a clean appearance from the front.
  • Standoff fixings: visible fixings, often near the corners, hold a panel away from the wall.
  • Floating frame: a visible outer frame surrounds the artwork with a gap. This is different from a frameless panel that appears to float.

Corner bolts (standoffs) are also available in chrome, black or gold on request. Contact us before ordering to arrange standoff fixings and confirm the details for your chosen print.

For a large or panoramic panel, follow the supplied hanging instructions and choose wall fixings suitable for both the wall construction and the finished print's weight. Contact us if you need help checking the requirements before ordering.

How much does an acrylic photo print cost?

The cost depends on the size and specification. When comparing suppliers, check the panel thickness, printing, edge finish, hanging system and delivery, as well as the headline price.

At Print Panoramics, our acrylic prints include the 10mm panel, diamond-polished edges and concealed subframe, with free UK delivery. To check your cost before checkout:

  1. Open the rectangular and square acrylic product or the panoramic acrylic product.
  2. Select the size you want to see its current price.
  3. Check the selected size and quantity in your basket, then review the final total at checkout.

If you would like standoff fixings, contact us to confirm the specification and total price before ordering. Use the current product price for your chosen size when planning your budget. A small square panel and a large panoramic print are different purchases, so compare equivalent dimensions and finishes rather than starting prices alone.

Where can I buy large acrylic photo prints in the UK?

You can order large acrylic photo prints made from your own photographs directly from Print Panoramics. Our rectangular range includes a 137 × 91 cm option, and our panoramic range extends to 48 × 16 inches (120 × 40 cm). Your print is made to order in the UK and securely packaged, with free UK delivery. We check your uploaded image before production.

Choose your size, upload your original photograph and check the crop before placing your order. Explore the acrylic print collection to find the format that suits your photograph and wall.

How should I care for an acrylic print?

Dust the front gently with a clean, soft cloth lightly dampened with water. Avoid gritty or abrasive cloths, heavy rubbing and ordinary window-cleaning sprays. Do not soak the panel or let cleaning liquid run around its edges or onto the back. Follow the care instructions supplied with your print, and ask us before using a specialist cleaning product.
